About me ...
Carey Parks-Schwartz is an award-winning contemporary painter. She has exhibited widely at venues across the country, including the Museum of Modern Art’s Rental and Sales Gallery (San Francisco, CA) and Art of the Northeast. She has been previewed in American Artist Magazine, Workshop, as well as numerous newspaper articles profiling her teaching process, and her body of work.
Carey holds a M.A. in Painting from San Jose State University M.F.A program and dual B.A. degrees in Art and Zoology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Since 1995, she has been a faculty member of the Silvermine School of Art, teaching painting and drawing.
A painter for over 25 years, Carey’s work has evolved in response to an exploration of her changing surroundings. A California native, the first body of work, inspired by growing up in Los Angeles and San Francisco, was composed of abstract urban scenes. Stirred by a move to Paris, Carey’s cityscapes began to incorporate coastal themes through her visits to the French family’s summer house on the Island of Oleron, in southwestern France.
Today, Carey’s work includes paintings of people in landscapes, and paintings of abstracted landscapes. Through her images, she evokes a universal emotional response.
